This wonderful yoga posture is a great stretch for the
chest, neck and spine. It opens the chest and lungs
and stretches out the shoulders relieving stress and fatigue.
The higher the student is able to elevate the arch of the back
in this posture the greater the benefit.
The bridge is also done with variations in the hand placement.
Instead of grasping the ankles, the hands are sometimes
clasped together just behind the ankles. Some times they
are allowed to just lay flat on the floor. If done in a
relaxed, aligned manner, this asana will bring mental
and physical balance.
